COUTURE SS12 : Dior

 Dior revealed their new couture today and it was actually okay. The show was under a lot of pressure since the last couture collection bombed -big time. It was torn to shreds by the critics. This is Gaytthen's second collection with Dior without Galliano and its starting to get annoying that we dont know who will replace Galliano yet. However this collection was a far cry from the messy unstructured show which took place last year....

 The color scheme was limited as the collection seemed to focus on black, white, grey with occasional bursts of red. It gave the collection a tighter more structured feel which lacked with the collection of 2011.

 There were a few pencil skirt designs but Dior flourishes with the dramatic showstopper - so it was the fuller more dramatic skirt which created the most impact which is why I've included nearly all the full skirts. But then what would couture be without a bit of a statement dress?

 There was a little bit of print with checks and spots appearing in places along with crocodile style leathers appearing on pencils skirts in black, grey and red.

 Corsets were tight to place emphasis on tiny waists before flowing into exaggerated hips and full skirts showing influences of 1950s designs - which is what I would normally associate with classic Dior. Although I'm not sure if the oversized hips look is one that would suit most people - I think I have enough problems there without adding to it!

 There were quite a few gowns with this years red carpet written all over them. I could almost see who would wear what already though!

So all in all a hit. But time will tell what the critics reckon to the new collection as reviews haven't been released yet. Although I am confident that Dior are back on track with this collection. I guess we all need time to adjust to a new job and to be fair with the last collection, it was half designed when the Galliano fiasco happened and they didn't have a big turn around time. It came across in the designs. I am happy that they have made a much better go of things this time.
