Song Review: Paloma Faith Celebrates Life and Newfound Confidence on Gloriously "Gold" New Single

"Picking Up the Pieces", "Just Be", "Only Love Can Hurt Like This", "Crybaby"... all impressive pop offerings delivered by UK songstress Paloma Faith that unfortunately made little to no impact stateside. Our loss.

Fourth studio album The Architect in 2017, Faith's first UK chart topper, was followed with re-releases, deluxe versions, and the artist matching her #6 chart peak with a "Lullaby" collaboration alongside DJ/producer Sigala.

However, it was not until "Better Than This" last month when the artist officially began promotion for fifth album Infinite Things, out November 13.

Written by Sigrid and Steve Mac (Ed Sheeran, Clean Bandit), the latest "Gold" is a glorious explosion of feel-good pop that pushes Faith into unexplored genre territory. Known for the drama and sorrow, the artist chooses to now celebrate life and a newfound sense of confidence.

All ingredients in a recipe for success!

Official second single "Gold" is unapologetic in its refreshing brightness, messages of encouragement, and joyous production. The continuous build of energy and spirits as the track progresses all leads to a choir-supporting closing chorus that will have listeners belting loudly along.

"But there's a part of me, that used to go and hide in peace, but now I'm touching the ceiling, I've found something to believe in," Faith sings over the hook, injecting some welcomed light in our extended era of darkness and separation.

Expecting her second child soon, the artist's decision to focus on the freedom and joy that comes with life is clearly purposeful. As we await the parent album's release, Faith reveals "Gold" was the only song not to be recorded in the depths of her basement. As with her journey out to the recording studio, the finished product represents a moment of escape, even if for just four minutes.

This blogger recalls his first experience with Paloma, hearing her belt doom-and-gloom ballads at a Perez Hilton party during SXSW in 2013. To now hear a colorful, uplifting ode to life is an appreciated surprise. In a just world, "Gold" would skyrocket to the top.
