Just over a decade ago, singer Buddy Jewell won over “Nashville Star” viewers and was voted America’s first winner of the hit reality TV show. He rose over eleven other contestants, including country music darling Miranda Lambert, by two million votes, securing his spot in television and music history.
He signed with Columbia Records and his self-titled album debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Country Album Chart and brought forth two top-five hits. “Sweet Southern Comfort” and “Help Pour Out the Rain” have both received over 1 million radio spins.
Jewell has been recognized has being recognized by the Grammy’s, ACM’s, CMA’s and CMT with multiple award nominations. He won the International Country Gospel Music Associations’s “Entertainer of the Year” and “Crossover Artist of the Year” awards in 2011.
Now, Jewell has signed with Lamon Records, partnering with one of the oldest indie labels in Nashville to record a classic country project in 2015. Jewell met Lamon Records’ producer and CEO Dave Moody at this past year’s George Shinn Foundation’s “Shinn-dig” at Lipscomb University where they were both performing for the TV Special that aired in Nashville on Christmas day.
“When Dave first approached me, it was like he was reading my mind… it was meant to be,” Jewell says. “I’d been toying with the idea of doing a classic country cover project and had actually begun picking out material in advance. One of the tunes I was strongly considering was George Hamilton IV’s “Abilene” written by songwriting legend J.D. Loudermilk. I’ve ALWAYS loved that tune. While talking to Dave, I became aware of Mr. Hamilton’s and Mr. Loudermilk’s friendship with the Moodys and Lamon Records. That helped to seal the deal for me.”
“Buddy has always been one of my favorite country vocalist,” says Moody. “And he’s such a great guy too. We’re really looking forward to working together.”
“I am especially excited to be part of the Lamon family,” says Jewell, “because we share the same basic values: God, country and family. Lamon has a fantastic track record and more importantly to me, a great reputation inside the music industry. I am extremely proud to be affiliated with them and I look forward to our initial release and to the beginning of what I hope to be a long and lasting friendship.”
Buddy Jewell will begin recording with Moody and some of Nashville’s finest session musicians this Spring. Look for his new album to be released before CMA Music Fest in June.
